Step 1 - Determine Approach

The Owner/Manager of a company along with the management team should determine the benefits of participating in the EOC program by reviewing the EOC Framework and Roadmap.

To proceed, a decision must be made whether to work through the process internally or with the assistance of a consultant.  Determine which option is best for your company. If you decide your business would benefit from the support of an HR Consultant, some provincial Tourism Education Councils can provide Consulting services and work with your team to facilitate the process of becoming an Employer of Choice. 

In-house EOC Process

The EOC program has been designed so that any size of company can access the website and all of the assessment tools and planning instruments on their own. You may decide to designate a person or EOC Team to use the tools and resources to assess current labour force issues and identify actions to become an Employer of Choice. You may then choose to engage a consultant to help with different stages of the process, or complete the steps on your own.

Review all the steps required to become an Employer of Choice. You may want to print the Leaders’ Guide as a handy, detailed reference.

Review the EOC Framework and the Roadmap.

External (Consultant)  EOC Process

Your company may decide to hire a consultant at different stages of the EOC process to assist in assessing and interpreting feedback from employees, developing action plans to address gaps between management and employees perceptions, or to provide support for the delivery of activities to move the business toward becoming an Employer of Choice. The consultant should use the EOC program tools and resources when working with your company to identify work force issues and develop action plans to move your company to becoming an Employer of Choice.
