History

The Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC) works on behalf of the 164,000 businesses that make up Canada's vibrant tourism sector. Established in 1993, the CTHRC promotes professionalism throughout the sector and addresses key labour market issues.

Collectively, Council members and the CTHRC bring together Canadian tourism businesses, labour unions, associations, educators and governments to co-ordinate human resource development activities and contribute to a sustainable, globally competitive tourism sector. The Discover Tourism Employer of Choice program makes a vital contribution to the industry by helping tourism employers understand what they need to do in order to build and retain a skilled workforce. As a result, tourism employers that participate in the program will be better able to deliver service excellence for best-in-class business performance!

The Employer of Choice program was developed by human resource experts and is designed to be easily used and understood by employers of every size and type. The program is based on the Employer of Choice Initiative which was developed by Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters - Manitoba Division in partnership with the Province of Manitoba and the Government of Canada.

To support your business in becoming an Employer of Choice, you can also access emerit, the industry’s best tourism training developed by the CTHRC to help your people learn and meet the National Occupational Standards for their roles.

If you have questions about the program or how it can be applied to your tourism business, please contact us.
