A combination of classroom and practical experience is gained through experience in our own restaurant, The Gallery, and many community events catered by the Northern Ontario Hospitality & Tourism Institute. Our Culinary Skills - Chef Training students work hand-in-hand with our Hospitality Operations - Food and Beverage and Hospitality Management - Hotel and Resort students to host a number of theme nights throughout the second semester. These nights are completely created and organized by the students and involve decorating The Gallery, designing the theme-centered menu and providing any additional ambiance, which will add to the overall effectiveness of the dinner. These specialty nights are consistently sold out, as the general public is always anxious and eager to support the students. Technical, interpersonal and financial planning skills are acquired in this program. This program covers all of the learning outcomes required by apprentice cooks. Graduates of the program must complete on-the-job learning outcomes, including applicable examinations and requirements to qualify for the cook trade.
