Banquet Server
Banquet servers are responsible for guest service, food and beverage service, table maintenance, and room set-up and teardown for receptions and other functions. They ensure that furniture and equipment are correctly set up. They serve food, replenish water and other beverages, maintain tables between courses, and tend to the miscellaneous needs of their guests. They clear tables during functions and remove and store items after functions.
Duties
- Double-check event details and requirements of the banquet event order (BEO)
- Set up function and meeting areas
- Load and carry trays safely
- Serve food and beverages in both stand-up and sit-down functions
- Serve coffee or health break refreshments
- Maintain and refresh event areas
- Serve breaks and meals in the meeting rooms
Experience
Excellent customer service and communication skills are required of banquet servers, as is a professional appearance and attitude. Banquet servers must be of legal drinking age if they are serving alcohol. Desirable skills and experience include time management skills, knowledge of health and safety regulations, and knowledge of the products, facility, sector, and industry.
Education
A secondary school diploma is preferred. Courses in responsible alcohol service, safe food handling, first aid, and service excellence are assets. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training and knowledge of the National Occupational Standards for Banquet Server are also valued by prospective employers.
