Sustainable Events Planner

Duties
- Plan and coordinate events such as eco-festivals, conservation fundraisers, and outdoor community gatherings from initial concept through to completion
- Develop and implement waste-reduction strategies, including zero-waste or low-waste protocols for sorting, composting, and diverting materials from landfill
- Source vendors, suppliers, and contractors whose practices align with sustainability standards, prioritizing local, low-impact, and environmentally certified options
- Set up and oversee front-of-house waste and recycling stations, train volunteers and staff on sorting procedures and monitor contamination throughout events
- Track and report sustainability metrics, including waste diversion rates and resource use, using established templates and reporting tools
- Coordinate event logistics, including transportation, accommodation, permitting, and catering, with a focus on reducing environmental and community impact
- Communicate sustainability goals and practices to guests, staff, volunteers, and vendors through signage, briefings, and interactive engagement activities
- Collaborate with programming teams to incorporate environmental education and community stewardship themes into the event experience
- Respond to on-site operational challenges such as supply changes, weather disruptions, or staffing gaps with practical, solutions-focused thinking
- Compile end-of-event summaries and reports for management, documenting diversion data, lessons learned, and recommendations for future improvement
